In the Surface Mount Technology (SMT) industry, pins play a crucial role in the assembly and functionality of electronic components. Problem:
In January 2025, our customer want us to develop three new designs for different sizes of pins, these pins have varying dimensions.
Solution:
To create an optimal carrier tape pocket for all of them, we need to consider precise tolerances for the pocket dimensions. If the pocket is slightly oversized, the part may tilt within it, which can affect the SMT pick-up process. Additionally, we must account for the necessary space for the gripper to ensure it can effectively pick up the components during the tape and reel and SMT processes.
Therefore, these tapes will be made with a wider 24mm width. While we cannot quantify the number of similar pins we have designed over the past years, each pocket is unique and custom to securely hold the components.
